What Day is Evangelism Day?
March 26th, 2017
By now you have been through a blitz of various holidays – Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years – and now you’re looking towards Easter. But when is Evangelism Day?
The obvious answer is: every day is Evangelism Day, because we have an opportunity to celebrate the grace, forgiveness and salvation the Lord has provided and obediently respond to his commission to “Go and make disciples”!
Each and every day, we can celebrate “Evangelism Day.” Unlike other days/holidays, there is no real cost, no expensive decorations or traditions – just the free offer of the Gospel to a lost world.
I realize that many folks, with good intentions, will try and pigeonhole evangelism to a particular day on the calendar or to a weekend “conference”- They’ll have an “emphasis day” or a special Sunday program. These things are all well and good, but the opportunities to evangelize the lost occur daily if you are actively looking for them.
The wonderful thing about sharing the Gospel is that it is the duty of every Christian, not just the job description of church officers or ministers. This year we are emphasizing the free offer of the Gospel – the idea that we are all to share the gospel constantly, with everyone, and let the Holy Spirit do the rest!
With our emphasis in mind, it’s a good time to examine your life and the life of your church, when it comes to evangelism. How intentional are the outreach efforts of the church? Please remember: there is a difference between outreach and evangelism. Reaching out into the community is crucial, it builds trust, networks and relationships, but it only affords you the structure to do the evangelism, to share you faith.
How are the programs geared towards opportunities to share your faith? As an individual Christian, how many times a day do you encounter the lost (in the market place, in the office, at school, in the neighborhood, at home)?
If all of your friends are Christians, you need to intentionally get new friends! I want to challenge you to seek out new opportunities to interact with the lost in your communities (sports, gatherings, programs, meals).
The early disciples were bold in their proclamation of the Gospel, they went outside of their comfort zone to reach the lost with the Good News. Far too often today, those who claim to be Christian refuse to cross the street to mention Jesus’ name to a neighbor.
One way to break this habit is to get involved in the missions programs of the ARP or of the local congregation. Becoming active as a prayer warrior, giving financially to specific missionaries or church planters and/or committing to take a short term mission trip somewhere (outside of your comfort zone) will jump start your desire to bring light unto the dark world around you.
As you look at your new calendar this month, I want to encourage you to mark each day as “Evangelism Day”, then prayerfully seek out an opportunity to share your faith and to proclaim the Lord Jesus Christ to the world!
Internet Evangelism Day
An evangelism resource for churches, bible colleges, outreach teams & individuals, because …
Digital media have transformed the world in the last 15 years. We have entered a new ‘digital communication culture’ where all the rules for effective communication have changed. Even offline!
There are 2+ billion web users, and over 4 billion people use mobile phones (increasingly these are web-equipped). The Web is not just another means of communication, but a hyper-medium that subsumes, links together, and enhances all previous media.
What do we offer?
Internet Evangelism Day exists to help Christians understand the huge and growing potential to share the good news of Jesus through digital media. We offer two complementary concepts:
- an annual focus day on the last Sunday of April each year, within the entire month of April which is designated Digital Outreach Month. This year, IE Day is 29 April. It is the ideal time to build a short focus time into your church meetings on or near that day, to showcase just how easily and effectively any online Jesus-follower can share the good news online. Here are suggestions for a focus spot. We are also offering a great range of FREE EBOOKS to download on 29 April.
- a year-round resource guide, with ideas and strategies for all types of digital evangelism, including a newsletter, blog, and twitter feed – view and subscribe here.
